Minister of Finance Oddný G. Harðardóttir, also serving as Minister of Industry, Energy and Tourism for the duration of Minister Katrín Júlíusdóttir’s maternity leave, confirmed grants to 30 tourism-related projects.

The total amount of grants to be distributed is ISK 69,000,000 (406,984 EUR or 543, 478 USD).
The board received 124 applications and the total amount requested in all grant applications received reached approximately ISK 455,000,000 (2,683,732 EUR or 3,583,806 USD).

The prediction for warm weather in Iceland last weekend had already come true last Friday when the temperature rose to 15 C° in Seyðisfjörður, East-Iceland. Temperatures rose in to the a double digits number in many places around Iceland on Friday. It was generally warmest in East-Iceland. The temperature in Neskaupsstaður, was measured at 14.7 C° and 14 C° at Hallormsstaður, mbl.is reports.

Two players from Leiknir and KR, two Icelandic football clubs located in Reykjavík, have been sentenced to a 6-match and a 3-match game prohibition for violence and racial abuse.

Last month, in a men’s 3rd division match between the two teams a player for the KR football club in Reykjavík’s Vesturbær verbally abused an ethnic player in the Leiknir football club, which led to a violent response from the latter.

When it comes to the Icelandic fashion calendar, March seems to be the time when everything happens.
The fashion scene, which in the last decade or so has continued to expand and blossom at an amazing pace, features dozens of amazing designers that produce professional collections worthy of any runway of Paris, London or Milan.

An anti-avalanche barrier, which is located above the healthcare center in the town of Ólafsvík in West-Iceland, stopped an avalanche from reaching the health center on March 19, skessuhorn.isreports.

Last Saturday, Ásynjur (“Goddesses”), a team at Akureyri Skating Club (SA), became female national champions in ice hockey after defeating Björninn (“The Bear”) Skating Club 6:2 in their third game in five days. In order to win the championship, the teams needed to win three games. Ásynjur won 3:0, thus winning the duel rather convincingly.
