Ugandan officials have returned SEK 25 million (EUR 2.9 million) to the Swedish International Development Agency (SIDA) after it was revealed that the aid funds were misappropriated.
According to an AFP report issued on Sunday 10 February, the money had been designated for the Ugandan Peace, Recovery and Development Programme, which is designed to help the northern part of the country recover from more than a decade of guerrilla warfare. Denmark, Ireland and Norway also contributed funds to the project.

Reykjavik-based bank Kaupthing has announced the resolution of its longstanding dispute with Qatari investor Sheikh Mohammed bin Khalifa bin Hamad Al Thani.

Researchers said that Helsinki’s current immigrant population is likely to more than double within 20 years, despite Statistics Finland forecasting much lower figures late last year.
The number of people living in Helsinki whose native language is not Finnish could grow to nearly 300,000 from...

Andri Guðmundsson, CEO of H.F. Verðbréf (H.F. Securities), an Icelandic securities firm, recently gave an interview with the American financial news corporation Bloomberg regarding capital controls in Iceland and how they are affecting investors.
Following capital controls imposed in 2008 by the Seðlabanki Íslands (TheCentral Bank of Iceland), investors with about USD 3 billion backed up in ISK assets, now face delays in exiting their holdings as steps to ease the restrictions by 2015 show signs of faltering.
“It will take decades for the central bank to remove the capital controls…Eventually...

Sporting Swedes took to the whites last weekend to compete in the country’s second annual snow golfing competition. The tournament in Kiruna, northern Sweden, saw Tomas Wågberg and Susanne Mellgren crowned the country’s unofficial champions.
Although there are international competitions in Austria, Switzerland and Greenland, it is thought that the fusion sport was first invented by British author Rudyard Kipling, who apparently began painting golf balls red and whacking them around his garden in 1890s while we was writing The Jungle Book.
“Those who are golf-crazy find it really exciting...
