Reporter Þóra Arnórsdóttir, one of the individuals encouraged to run for presidency, has expressed an interest in running against President Grímsson.

When contacted by Pressan yesterday afternoon she did not exclude the possibility of running in the upcoming elections.

“I have been approached by a number of people who have challenged me to run. I can’t help but respond in a respectful manner to those who have encouraged me to run,” she told the reporter.

Þóra is one of Iceland’s finest reporters at the mere age of 37. She is a co-host of Kastljós, a local news magazine on Rúv state broadcasting corporation. She was the recipient of an Edda award last month, an annual award ceremony celebrating the arts and media.  She was the viewers’ popular choice of the year.

She is married to reporter Svavar Haraldsson and the pair is expecting a child in May. Her grandfather is the union leader and political figure Hannibal Valdimarsson, her father being professor emeritus Arnór Hannibalsson. She is the niece of former Minister of Foreign Affairs, Jón Baldvin Hannibaldsson, whose controversial letters to a young relative of his wife made headlines in the Icelandic media recently.

“We’ll see what happens,” she said in conclusion.
