Reykjavík District Court sentenced two men aged around 30, Arkadiusz Zdzislaw Pawlak and Rafal Grajewski, to four years in prison on Thursday for raping a woman in a car by Reykjavík Domestic Airport last year.

They offered her a ride but instead drove her to the airport where they forced her to have oral and anal sex with them in the back seat, Fréttablaðið reports. The woman resisted, telling them she was an intravenous drug addict and HIV-positive, showing them the syringe marks on her arm to get them to stop, but in vain. Neither of the men admitted to having raped the woman. Both men stated that the other had had intercourse with her while he himself had no part in it. However, the woman’s condition shortly after the incident as well as medical results supported her testimony, even though her story changed somewhat between being questioned by the police and the court. The verdict states that the men’s violation was serious and demeaning for the victim. They are to pay her ISK 1.2 million (USD 9,700, EUR 7,400) in damages. According to visir.is, the men have both appealed the verdict to the Supreme Court. iceland
