Last night, a radio host at Rás 2, one of Iceland’s state run radio stations shocked listeners all across the country as she fainted during a live broadcast. She was in the middle of reading questions in an exciting match between two teams in Gettu betur, an annual quiz show in which Iceland’s colleges compete.

The radio host, named Gunna Dís, happened to be covering for Edda Hermannsdóttir, the show’s host the second year running, who had come down with the flu.

As a result, Örn Úlfar Sævarsson, the show’s judge and author of questions along with Þórhildur Ólafsdóttir, suddenly found himself in the role of the host as well, handling the task brilliantly.

Gunna Dís was taken to the emergency room and following an examination was sent home to rest.

She was therefore unable to appear this morning on her immensely popular Rás 2 show, Virkir morgnar, which she hosts alongside Andri Freyr Viðarsson.

This is not the only setback this season has seen. Earlier this week, a number of matches had to be cancelled due to the snowstorm that has shaken the country.

The next episodes of Gettu betur will take place at Rás 2 next Tuesday evening starting at 7.30 p.m. GMT.
