Two young horses, one and two years old, which were discovered by people on ski-doos by coincidence in the remote Gæsadalur valley in Eyjafjörður, north Iceland, on December 28 were fetched by search and recue workers yesterday.

They were very weak after yesterday’s journey, which took nearly five hours, and had to be given intravenous nutrition, ruv.is reports. The livestock surveillance division of the Icelandic Food and Veterinary Authority (MAST) provided the owner with an extension until the end of this week to collect his horses and ordered hay to be brought to them until then. However, district veterinarian Ólafur Jónsson took action and ordered that the horses be fetched immediately. He has also called for a police investigation into their treatment. Iceland
