Star football player Gylfi Þór Sigurðsson signed a six-month loan deal on January 1 to join the Premier League club Swansea City from German Bundesliga side Hoffenheim.

"I'm really pleased that agreement has been reached between the teams and it can be said that my  dream of getting into the Premier League has come true," Gylfi Sigurðsson is reported as saying.

"'I first heard of interest from Swansea when I came home for Christmas and there have been ongoing negotiations between Hoffenheim and Swansea the last few days and today an agreement was reached.

"I follow very closely the Premiership and I have both seen and heard that Swansea play good football. It does not surprise me because I played under manager Brendan Rodgers at Reading and he wants his team to play the ball from the last man."

A Dream Move

Rodgers had gone on record following the 1-1 draw with Tottenham that he was looking at a goal scoring midfielder and the 22-year-old former Reading ace would fit the bill.

Gylfi made his breakthrough at the Royals under Rodgers, scoring 21 goals in the 2009/10 season to attract interest from various Premier League clubs before making an GBP 8 million (ISK 1,5 billion, EUR 9,586 million)move to Germany.

Yet, despite a successful season with Hoffenheim last term, the set-piece specialist has struggled for starts of late and made available for a January move.

Swansea City is number 15 of 20 teams in the Premier League with twenty points. Their last game against top team Tottenham ended 1-1 on New Year’s Eve. The next Swansea game when Gylfi will be available is today, away in Birmingham against Aston Villa.
