Eyjólfur Árni Rafnsson (b. 1957) was selected Businessman of the Year by Frjáls verslun, Iceland Review’s sister publication. Eyjólfur Árni is honored for promoting Icelandic intellectual capital with his coworkers at Mannvit engineering consulting firm.

Mannvit is an international consulting firm offering comprehensive engineering, consulting, management, operational and EPCM services. According to Eyjólfur Árni, approximately 80 percent of Mannvit’s staff have a university degree. About three percent have a Ph.D. and 38 percent have a Master’s degree. Mannvit’s biggest customers are in Iceland including the aluminum plants and the power companies. During the recession Eyjólfur Árni has lead his company to profitability and increased turnover. In 2008 turnover was approximately ISK 6.6 billion (USD 55 million, EUR 40 million). The estimated turnover of Mannvit in 2011 is ISK 8.4 billion (USD 70 million, EUR 53 million). Profits are projected to be ISK 900 million, (USD 7.5 million, EUR 5.6 million). Mannvit was Iceland’s 78th largest company in Iceland according to Frjáls verslun’s list of the top 300 companies. Eyjólfur Árni holds a Ph. D. in Civil Engineering from the University of Missouri-Rolla in the US in 1991. After graduation he was employed by Hönnun, one of the three companies, which also included VGK and Rafhönnun, that merged in 2008 to form Mannvit.. He is married to Egilína S. Gudgeirsdóttir. They have four sons and five grandchildren.
