He ignored their requests for him to stop, hit a police car and didn’t stop until the use by police of a spike strip which punctured the car’s tires.

At that point, the driver was about to enter the tunnel below Hvalfjörður fjord, leading towards Reykjavík, Morgunblaðið reports.

The man entered Borgarnes from the north shortly before 10 pm. Police noticed him driving strangely and signaled for him to stop. Instead, he started speeding in an effort to lose the police, reaching a speed of 150 kilometers per hour.

The Borgarnes police department called for reinforcement from Akranes and the capital region during the chase.

Shortly before the roundabout by the tunnel, the police laid out the spike strip which punctured most of the car’s tires.

However, the driver progressed and entered the tunnel but shortly afterwards he hit a curb and the car was brought to a halt.
