The Icelandic Music Day will be celebrated on Thursday, December 1 (which is also the Icelandic Sovereignty Day). All the country’s radio stations will play three Icelandic songs simultaneously at 11:15 am and the entire nation is urged to sing along.

The songs in question are of a broad variety: “Kvæðið um fuglana” by Atli Heimir Sveinsson to the poem of national poet Davíð Stefánsson, “Mannstu ekki eftir mér” by Ragnhildur Gísladóttir to the lyrics of Þórður Árnason and “Stingum af” by Mugison.

Also on the Day of Icelandic Music, Iceland Music Export (IMX) will celebrate its fifth anniversary with a ceremony in Harpa, the new concert and conference center in Reykjavík, where an award will be presented to a person who is considered to have been exceptional in his or her support for Icelandic music this year.
