The volcano Hekla in south Iceland can now be watched live on the website of telecommunications company Míla, which recently placed a new webcam in the vicinity, facing the mountain.
Hekla. Photo by Páll Stefánsson. Hekla is a 1,491-meter-high volcanic ridge and one of the best known and most active volcanoes in Iceland. It has both been called “the queen of Icelandic volcanoes” and “the gateway to hell.” Although there are no signs of an immediate eruption in Hekla, some scientists have speculated that it might be preparing for one. Míla now has nine webcams in Iceland, most of which are located in the southern part of the country. The company first put up a live webcam during the volcanic eruptions on Fimmvörduháls and Eyjafjallajökull in 2010, mbl.is reports. ESA
