|RIFF’s 2011 Golden Puffin Goes to Twilight Portrait|

Russian director Angelina Nikonova won the highest award of the Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF) 2011, the Discovery Award, for her film Twilight Portrait at the festival’s award ceremony in the new concert and conference hall Harpa on Saturday.

She accepted the Golden Puffin trophy from chairman of the jury, Ulrich Thomsen, as stated on the festival’s website.
However, the choice proved difficult this year and so two other films were given a special recognition: Shun Li And the Poet by Italian director Andrea Segre and Oslo, 31. August by Norwegian director Joachim Trier.
Meanwhile, Icelandic director Rúnar Rúnarsson accepted two awards for his first full-length feature film Volcano (Eldfjall): the Fipresci International Critic’s Award and the Church of Iceland Award.
This year’s Audience Award went to Le Havre by Finnish director Aki Kaurismaki, the Environmental Award to Irish director Risteard Ó Domhnaill’s The Pipe and Come to Harm (Skadi) by Börkur Sigthórsson was named the Best Icelandic Short Film.
