“La jeune fille à la fleur” by Marc Riboud, Unga Washington D.C, 1967.

There he was encouraged by Robert Capa and Henri Cartier-Bresson who became his mentors. Riboud is best known for his explicit storytelling in pictures in the Far East—he was among the first western photographers to enter China after Mao’s Cultural Revolution in 1966.

The exhibition runs through January 8, 2012.

The fourth part of Leifur Thorsteinsson’s photo-series on display at the Reykjavík Museum of Photography is dedicated to portraits. The exhibition, which also opens today, consists of 20 black-and-white photos, mostly shot around 1980.

They portray Iceland’s most prominent artists in that period and part of the photos were taken for the book Íslensk list (Icelandic Art), published in 1981. The exhibition runs through November 3, 2011.

A photo exhibition on the round-up of sheep is also currently running at the museum.
