The woman will not be questioned or undergo a psychiatric evaluation until she has been released from hospital. She will be in solitary confinement in prison so that she won’t be able to sabotage the investigation, Morgunbladid reports.
“We are working on contacting the woman’s family in Lithuania,” said Fridrik Smári Björgvinsson, senior officer of the Reykjavík Metropolitan Police investigative department.
The autopsy of the infant’s body was completed yesterday. According to the newspaper’s sources, there are strong indications that the baby was born alive.
The police are trying to determine whether the woman realized she was pregnant, which is a major factor in determining the verdict.
