German Ambassador to Iceland Hermann Sausen will open the German Film Days in the cinema Bíó Paradís in central Reykjavík on March 17. The opening film is Poll (The Poll Diaries; 2010) by director Chris Kraus.
In a press release, the film is described thus:
“Half-way between sweeping historical epic and a poetic coming-of-age love story, The Poll Diaries sumptuously captures a very particular moment in time just before the outbreak of World War I, a particular place in rural Estonia, and the very special people who lived through that doomed moment. This is that rare film that appeals to both critics and general audiences.”
Other films screened during the festival include Drei (Three; 2010) by Tom Tykwer, Goethe! (2010) by Philipp Stözl, Renn, Wenn Du Kannst (Run if You Can; 2010) by Dietrich Brüggemann, Sascha (2010) by Dennis Todrovic and Lila, Lila (2009) by Alain Gsponer.
The German Film Days are organized by the German Embassy in collaboration with Bíó Paradís, the Goethe Institute, the University of Iceland German Department and the Reykjavík International Film Festival (RIFF).
The festival will continue for ten days, through March 27. All screenings will be shown with English subtitles.
