The Icelandic national team in men’s handball strengthened its position in the preliminary round for the European Championship in Handball considerably after beating Germany 36-31 in Laugardalshöll arena in Reykjavík yesterday.

Goalie Björgvin Páll Gústavsson and shooters Gudjón Valur Sigurdsson and Aron Pálmarsson were the game’s key players, Morgunbladid reports.

“We have to focus on the next game against Germany, which will be a very difficult task. The outcome of the preliminary group probably won’t be clear until after the last game,” commented Iceland’s coach Gudmundur Gudmundsson.

The next game will be played in Germany.
