Iceland’s capital was subject to a significant amount of snowfall last night and so city residents woke up to a thick blanket of powdery snow, at least 15 centimeters deep, this morning. It seemed the perfect winter weather because the wind was also still.

However, the wind is forecast to pick up speed and blow in from the north at eight to 15 meters per second in the afternoon and so snowdrifts are to be expected given that the snow is rather light, visir.is reports. Almost 30 traffic accidents were reported in the capital yesterday, which can be traced back to poor visibility and slippery road conditions, but no one was severely injured. This morning the traffic was slow because of all the snow that had fallen.
