Experimental cultivation of rapeseed for oil production is being prepared in all rural districts in the Austur-Skaftafellssýsla county in southeast Iceland. The oil can be used both for biodiesel and cooking oil production.

The remaining straw can be used as bedding for horses, visir.is reports. According to Baendabladid, the farmers’ newspaper, it is currently being tested what areas are most suitable for rapeseed cultivation.
