Lúkas the Dog Dies Shortly after Libel Case The pure-bred Chinese Crested dog Lúkas from Akureyri, north Iceland, died on Sunday after a sudden illness. Lúkas, probably the most famous pet in Iceland in recent years, was indirectly the cause of a libel case, which ended last week.

Lúkas made the headlines after he disappeared from his home in May 2007. After he had been gone for a while, a rumor that he had been brutally killed by a gang of young men got started, Fréttabladid reports.

A number of bloggers commented on the story, naming the alleged ringleader in their blog entries.

Two months later Lúkas turned up alive; he had been roaming the hills above Akureyri. Last week the victim of the rumors won a libel case against one of the bloggers.
