The man who has confessed to having brutally attacked his father in his home in Reykjavík’s Thingholt neighborhood in November was deemed compos mentis in a psychiatric evaluation, according to Fréttabladid’s sources.
Reykjavík District Court. The case against him opened at Reykjavík District Court yesterday. He is accused of attempted murder. Damages for the victim worth ISK 3 million (USD 26,000, EUR 19,000) were demanded and the accused has agreed to the demand. The defendant’s lawyer asked yesterday that the trial take place behind closed doors. The nature of the trial will be decided on Friday. The assailant has been in custody since the attack took place, which was extended until March 7 at court yesterday. His father is still in hospital and has not regained consciousness.
