Warmer temperatures and afforestation in Iceland have enabled more species of birds to settle in the country, with the number of species increasing every year.

Most species are small forest birds which make their homes in the growing forests.

“Many of these small birds have not lived here during the winter for 15 to 20 years but the increase in afforestation and the warming climate has allowed them to live here,” ornithologist Jóhann Óli Hilmarsson told Morgunblaðið.

Sigur Rós recently announced that they have been working on a new album from Los Angeles slated for release later this year, as reported on nme.com.

The band revealed the news during a one-hour live interview session with fans on January 24.

The band is scheduled to tour extensively in 2013, with a gig in Milan, Italy, today and across Europe until March 9.

The band will then head to North America, where they will perform extensively including two recently announced appearances at Coachella music festival in California.

Keflavík won the Women’s Basketball Cup for the 13th time after beating Valur 68:60 in the final at Laugardalshöll on Saturday.

Some of the largest pension funds in Iceland, along with the Iceland Enterprise Investment Fund (FSÍ) and parties connected with MP Bank, have been involved in acquisition negotiations with the winding-up committee of Glitnir Bank regarding its 95 percent share in Íslandsbanki.
